It’s a new year and that means new trends! Styles always shift and it’s hard to stay on top of what is “hot” and what is “not,” but have no fear, I’m here to help! I love watching how the home design trends are going, especially seeing what is going on in pinterest/internet land vs. what people are REALLY doing in their homes. It’s an interesting mix, for sure.
New Year, New Paint
I’m continually amazed at what a fresh coat of paint can do. It can breathe new life into almost anything. Paint has remodeling power when you use it to emphasize a room’s best features or play down the flaws. It is one of the most economical upgrades for your home and can give it a whole new appeal. It’s cheap, relatively easy and it’s an instant gratification upgrade!

There’s No Place Like Home For The Holidays: 8 December Home Maintenance Tips
Tis the season…for home maintenance?! Okay, okay…that’s definitely not the highlight of the season. However, Texas winters are definitely hard on your home and a bit of prevention goes a long way this time of year. Cold weather is here and you’ll probably be at home more often to avoid Mr. Winter, so it’s a great chance to get a leg up (err…catch up) on some home maintenance before temperatures drop to downright unfriendly levels. There’s a hot new room that is high on buyer’s want lists–the mud room! A mud room is a “catch-all” entry room that is very functional and can be decorated to the nines, too! Sometimes mud rooms are closed off and are separate rooms and sometimes they make a “room” out of previously dead space (like a hallway, walkway or entryway). Many houses have an existing space that could be converted to the “mud room” aesthetic. In an existing house, finding an unused space to transform into a mudroom is the most cost-effective way to get this look (and not have to remodel!). If you don’t have one (and unless you’ve got a fairly new home or are really lucky), Make One Up! Continue reading
If you are working on home projects or plan to in the future, keep this place in mind–Surplus Warehouse in Tyler, TX. They’ve got everything from doors, toilets, cabinets, flooring, windows and much more! The downside is that you’ll have to haul it back to Palestine, but if you’re doing a bigger project, the savings can be BIG! Continue reading
This is going to be a quickie post, but I did want to do a post on it, because many people in Palestine don’t know that we have a professional plumbing supply house! Ferguson Enterprises is for both commercial and residential projects and you do not have to be a plumber or contract to shop here. They have everything from hot water heaters to disposals (side note: the disposals are cheaper and higher quality than Lowe’s!) to pipes/fittings and hardware..seriously, anything you need they will have it, and if they don’t, they will order it and it will be in the same week. So, without further ado, I present 7 Tips for October Home Maintenance in East Texas: Continue reading
We all know about Spring Cleaning, but there are several things that need to be done in the fall months to prepare your Palestine, Texas home for the winter months! Luckily in Texas, we do not have to deal with basements and some other cold weather home issues that our Yankee neighbors have to face. However, there are some things that need to be addressed to prevent more expensive issues later on. Preventative maintenance=Cheaper Maintenance! (and who doesn’t love cheaper!?) Continue reading
I don’t do this often, but I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight one of my listings. The sellers have recently taken out the carpet to expose the hardwood floors, and the results are just amazing! The changes have brought new life into this darling cottage to expose the historic character that this gem has to offer!
BEFORE: carpets were clean, but outdated at 1015 N. Fowler in Palestine. AKA “I’m too sexy for this carpet!” hehe
AFTER: HELLO GORGEOUS HARDWOODS, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?! 😉
