It’s a new year and that means new trends! Styles always shift and it’s hard to stay on top of what is “hot” and what is “not,” but have no fear, I’m here to help! I love watching how the home design trends are going, especially seeing what is going on in pinterest/internet land vs. what people are REALLY doing in their homes. It’s an interesting mix, for sure.

They’ve got everything from doors, toilets, cabinets, flooring, windows and much more! Boxwoods are a common landscaping shrub and can be found in almost every neighborhood (and probably every street) in Palestine. You may not know what a boxwood is off the top of your head, but you’ll recognize it in the pics, I promise!

Oh…boxwoods…I have a love-hate relationship with them. Don’t get me wrong…I am not a complete boxwood hater. Well, maybe I am. The photo above is a great use of boxwoods–they are clean and crisply manicured and they definitely add interest to the landscaping. I like boxwoods when they are not the ONLY landscaping in a yard and when they are mixed in with other (preferably blooming) shrubs. However, boxwoods can also date a house, especially when it is the only shrubbery in sight. I just got back from a long weekend trip to Ohio. My husband, my son and I went up to go to my Sister-in-Law’s wedding. We had some hectic travel plans. Our first flight from Tyler got cancelled and we ended up having to drive to DFW to catch a flight out to make it to the wedding in time. I don’t do this often, but I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight one of my listings. The sellers have recently taken out the carpet to expose the hardwood floors, and the results are just amazing! The changes have brought new life into this darling cottage to expose the historic character that this gem has to offer!
